Celebrating National Hammock Day in KC

On July 22, we celebrate National Hammock Day!  As we enter into the dog days of Summer, many of us are looking for ways to beat the heat, relax and enjoy our dwindling summer evenings, or just take a break from the daily grind. A hammock can be the perfect respite, wherever you are.

Traditionally hung by rope between two trees, hammocks have evolved into a fashionable and relaxing way to recharge.  In yards populated with stronger, adult trees, try anchoring the hammock between two.  A good hammock rope will allow you to adjust the for the distance between trees as well as the tree’s girth.  Make the quiet and shade your own personal oasis.

For homes with covered or screened in porches, try mounting hooks into the ceiling.  Anchoring the hammock ropes from above, is often an easy way to add the comfort and relaxation of a hammock in limited space.  It is also easily set up or taken down and stored when not in use.

For porches and patios with no covering, look at purchasing a hammock with a base.  Camping stores and home stores are a good place to start.  From simple metal frames to ornate wooden frames, you can find a hammock to fit any budget or decor.  Set up and enjoy all summer long.

Hammocks aren’t just great for the home-front either.  They are lightweight, portable and set up virtually anywhere.  Pack one in your camping gear, gather up the family and try out a new camping spot.  Check out Watkins Mill State Park on the Missouri Side or Clinton State Park in Lawrence, Kansas.
